Why join the Department for International Trade?
A welcome letter from Bidesh Sarkar, Director, Finance and Business Services

Recognising the importance of the finance function in delivering DIT’s ambitious agenda, we are growing the size of the finance function and investing in the people, process and systems capabilities needed for excellence. Investing in learning and development to equip our finance colleagues to deliver in their roles is particularly important to me. On joining DIT, you will become a member of the Government Finance Profession (GFP), have access to the Government Finance Academy, and be able to participate in a range of learning and development opportunities to build your career. For candidates applying to roles that do not require an accounting qualification, there are also opportunities to become a qualified accountant or to undertake other relevant qualifications as part of DIT’s and HMG’s commitment to delivering apprenticeships.

The roles we are recruiting for offer an opportunity to be part of a growing finance function which delivers a broad portfolio of finance work, and has reach and impact across DIT and beyond. We are a friendly team who work hard and support each other to deliver. We would love to see an application from you if you are able to embrace working in an environment of change, which offers the opportunity to exercise your talents, develop your potential, and shape the future of the finance function and DIT.

I look forward to receiving your application.

Kind regards,

Bidesh Sarkar

I joined DIT as Director of Finance and Business Services in January 2019, having previously held numerous CFO and corporate services leadership roles across private, public and non-profit organisations, largely in international settings. I was attracted to the opportunity because I felt I had a wealth of relevant experience which I could apply in a very interesting and challenging context, and importantly, a context that is central to the UK’s success as a trading nation. Finance is at the very heart of DIT’s capability to deliver its objectives: supporting effective management of resources, providing advice on how best to deploy those resources to achieve DIT’s objectives, and ensuring DIT delivers value for money to the tax-payer. From strategic business partners to technical accountants, all members of the directorate are contributing to DIT’s purpose and mission
