London is, quite simply, extraordinary. From the historic splendour of Westminster to the cutting-edge innovation of Canary Wharf, from the artistic energy of the South Bank to the vibrant communities that make up our 32 boroughs – this is a city that pulses with possibility. Every day, over 9 million people from all corners of the globe call London home, creating a unique tapestry of cultures, ideas and aspirations. Working for the Metropolitan Police Service and leading policing will be one of the most exciting, challenging and rewarding jobs you will ever do.

Our people have a most extraordinary commitment to the mission of policing which is essential in the city we serve that presents challenge and opportunity like no other. It is a pleasure to lead them.

We are on a transformational path built around our promise to Londoners – More Trust, Less Crime and High Standards and the New Met for London Strategy that underpins it. We have faced significant challenges along the way, we are a shrinking police service, and our services are in greater demand than ever before. But we have made a substantial amount of progress too.

Our duty to the public requires us to do more for our officers and staff, ensuring they have the tools, equipment and framework they need to succeed. We have also taken strides in strengthening our culture – putting in place the development, training, and processes to ensure we live our guiding principles and values – Integrity, Courage, Accountability, Respect and Empathy. This has been underpinned by strengthening professional standards and by landmark action plans on race and culture.

But, if we are to succeed on this next part of the journey, we need an inspirational senior leader with a relentless eye for delivery and a collaborative approach, to continue to translate the ambitions set out in the New Met for London into reality and further significant progress in operational performance.

As a Senior Leader in the Met, you will do more than just deliver operational excellence. You will have a role that impacts on leading and inspiring our tens of thousands of outstanding officers and staff policing the most diverse city in the world – putting the community and our frontline back at the heart of everything we do.

We are looking for someone exceptional to join the Senior Leadership Team. You should be prepared for a leadership challenge that is both the most professionally rewarding and the greatest test of your expertise and resilience. This is your chance to be part of the team that is making a lasting difference in a truly global city.

The renewal of the vision of policing by consent is more important than ever. I hope you will choose to join us in this mission.

Sir Mark Rowley, QPM
