Welcome

Thank you for your interest in joining Asthma UK and the British Lung Foundation.

Two years on from our merger to form the UK’s respiratory charity, Asthma UK and the British Lung Foundation stand at an exciting point in our long history. To the outside world we maintain, for now, two separate charity brands. Inside we are one organisation having completed the integration of the two charities amid the backdrop of the pandemic. In the new year, we’ll be launching a bold and ambitious new strategy that builds on our merger, and unleashes our potential as a single voice for transforming people’s lung health.

As part of this we have ambitious plans to grow our impact, income, and reach. To support this, we need to ensure our organisation has the tools it needs for growth. Having merged our finances, we’ve taken stock of what we need from our finance team to ensure it’s fit for purpose for the charity we are now and aspire to be, rather than the smaller charities we used to be.

The outcome of this review is a new structure for our finance team with a greater emphasis on business partnering, as well as a renewed focus on professional development. We’re increasing the number of qualified roles in the team, as well as ensuring that all other roles are either part-qualified or studying toward it, and we’ll provide financial support to help people on their professional journey.

Our biggest need is around developing a first-class finance business partnering function. We now seek three ambitious and determined new recruits to build that function.

First, we’re looking for a leader to be the Head of Finance Business Partnering, reporting to the Deputy Director of Finance. We need somebody who can transform this part of finance from a relatively transactional Management Accounting function to a service that is embedded in the organisation, adding value to our strategic plans. The role will manage a team of 3, with further growth depending on the progress of the organisation. One of these posts, the Assistant Management Accountant, is in place already.

Reporting to the Head, we are also looking for a Finance Business Partner; a qualified accountant with a passion for bringing finance to life and supporting the business to achieve it’s ambitious plans. Then, completing the team will be a Management and Systems Accountant, who will ensure our reporting is accurate, timely, and meets our business needs, as well as leading for the team on projects requiring finance support.

All of this fits into our Operations Directorate mission to simplify, automate, and partner through whatever we do. We want this to be a great place to work where people can bring their true and best selves, and we have a highly motivated and friendly team working to deliver that ambition.

If you like what you hear and think you might be suitable for one of the roles, we’d love to hear from you!

Best of luck with your application.

Ben Clarkson

Chief Operating Officer
