Job summary
-
The Senior Business Analyst (SBA) will be directly responsible for providing business analysis expertise and support for a range of projects of varying complexity, involving technology, across the Trust.
​
-
Working with various Project Manager(s), this post will undertake business analysis tasks to research, collate, interpret and present requirements requested by business sponsors and stakeholders. The role will also assist in the design and in some instances development and testing of deliverables as well as fulfilling a project management role for small projects.
​

The SBA will work across multiple parts of the organisation liaising with colleagues up to Director level. The successful articulation of requirements and associated design is critical to delivering the stated benefits within the business case and the role will maintain an awareness of this at all times.

The SBA will also be expected to lead any improvement in the analysis and requirements management practises as part of how projects are delivered within the Trust.

Main Duties
-
Responsible for initial evaluation of opportunities to ensure the benefits case is viable. Upon approval, document and manage user requirements according to the stated outcomes of the project
​

Understand how existing systems function supports current business processes and redesign them accordingly
​
-
Build effective relationships with both business sponsors, stakeholders and IT suppliers in order to both support and challenge ‘wants and needs’ and negotiate on fundamental issues of design
​

Design testing scripts and criteria to enable business sign-off of the new system or functionality and manage the testing process
​

Undertake full responsibilities for work streams covering all aspects from customer engagement to delivery of the technical requirements and supporting achievement of the stated benefits

As required, directly manage the work of contract business analysts across the portfolio of initiatives ensuring compliance to correct practises

Key Responsibiities
Analysis and design
-
Undertake business analysis on both evaluation activity and formalised project work. Where approval is given to proceed provide business analysis support throughout the lifecycle covering requirements analysis, functional design, user testing and supporting business change
-
Specifically gather user requirements through initiation of 1-2-1 stakeholder sessions or facilitated workshops. Support the project by modelling functional and data requirements using structured analysis techniques. Produce documentation that aids business comprehension and sign off whilst providing sufficient level of detail to engage with internal technical teams and third party IT suppliers
-
Provide key inputs to both the project manager and third party suppliers in advising on technical feasibility and costs validated against the business case to ensure viability. Contribute on an on-going basis to queries and points of clarification as the project progresses

Support the user acceptance testing (UAT) by assisting in the development of scenarios, test runs and test scripts. Help to determine expected results and verify actual results
-
Provide guidance to the impacted areas of the business in how to best manage the transition and on-going operation of new systems and processes

Provide support and guidance in ensuring a smooth transition internally from the Business Solutions function to IT Services for on-going management of the operation

When required, undertake third party software package evaluation using formal evaluation techniques

Lead the analysis and testing contributions as part of the creation of an IT Project Delivery Framework for the deployment of technology

Relationships, Management and Communication
-
Develop a network of relationships with key people and user groups across the Trust. In doing so build increased knowledge of the Trust operations and how technology interacts. Ultimately be seen as the ‘go to’ person

Specifically work with designated stakeholders to analyse, research and document requirements

Present potentially highly complex or sensitive information to a broad group of individuals and stakeholders
-
Through facilitation, formulate and agree with stakeholders a definitive statement of requirements. As appropriate use own knowledge, skills and expertise to positively influence others in reaching agreement
-
Maintain effective communications with stakeholders throughout the project in assessing agreed changes to scope and impacts to working practises
-
Provide reports and presentations to senior stakeholders project boards as required
-
Act as an effective translator between the user community and technical community including third party IT suppliers and in doing so build credibility, rapport and respect in the eyes of these communities

Communicate complex technical issues to non-technical staff at all levels in a manner that enables understanding
Planning and Organisation

For work streams undertake detailed planning, as appropriate, covering all the phases of the project lifecycle from analysis to post live support. Ensure sponsors and stakeholders are engaged fully in the delivery of the stated outcomes

Provide detailed timeline and work estimates of the analysis and testing phases in order for the Project Manager to assess overall delivery timescales

As part of documenting requirements, clearly align these to financial and non-financial benefits. At all times maintain a focus on the stated aims of the business case and challenge stakeholders if requirements are viewed as divergent

Maintain an awareness of the strategic aims of the Trust. Through a detailed understanding of the operations in conjunction with technology capabilities, identify new opportunities that further advance the strategy

In the event of managing work streams ensure active management of any associated budgets

Adhere to all Trust financial policies including the proper creation and approval of relevant supplier purchase orders and invoices
