Job purpose

As part of its ongoing investment is cancer services the Trust is purchasing a new EPIC electronic patient record which it intends to implement in March 2023. In addition, the Trust is also building a brand new £70m oak cancer centre at the heart of its campus in Sutton.

​

The post holder will provide comprehensive technical design and deployment planning experience into to the deployment of end user technology and devices to all Royal Marsden sites in support of its new EPR and the construction of the oak cancer centre.

Key areas of responsibility

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Act as the overall lead Systems Infrastructure design authority in project delivery. Working with all technical leads to ensure that the requirements of the Technical Architecture are implemented in full, and that all technical dependencies are identified and managed.

  • Working closely with project and technical teams to review, interpret and respond to detailed business requirement specifications to ensure alignment between customer expectations and current and future technology capabilities. Reporting on delivery commitments to ensure solutions are implemented as expected and to agreed timeframes.

  • Own, develop and maintain the appropriate documentation required to describe the Technical Architecture at both an enterprise and solution level (High Level and Low Level designs) and use different views to describe the architecture to audiences of varying levels of technical expertise.

  • Provide input to the strategic direction of technology investments. Assisting in the development and the continued improvement of the current enterprise architecture to maximise technology capabilities, ensuring the best return on technology investment

  • Estimate cost, and support the preparation of business cases for IT solutions, considering infrastructure, licences, development, and support.

  • Undertake information gathering and scene setting meetings with customers where necessary, evaluate technical proposals from external suppliers, and make implementation recommendations to senior stakeholders.

  • Support members of all technical teams in breaking down complex problems and identify steps towards solutions.

  • Develop and maintain a model of RMH current and future Systems Infrastructure. designing a structure that is stable, resilient and performant for RMH business needs.

  • Technical Architect Lead in designing, specifying and selecting information system solutions, considering functionality, data, security, integration, infrastructure and performance.

  • Investigate, research and where pertinent, trial information systems of interest that might benefit RMH.

  • Manage suppliers to ensure a good supplier / customer relationship.

  • Governance of IT delivery teams, ensuring resources are efficiently utilised to meet strategic objectives. Ensure there is effective resourcing to meet the needs of the Users and to support IT delivery on a timely basis.

  • Be responsible for the self-development of skills and competencies through participation in learning and development activities, and to maintain up to date technical and professional knowledge relevant to the post

  • Build and develop effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders and role model excellent customer service at all times.

  • Prepare and maintain operational documentation for database software.

  • Plan, monitor, measure, and report providing regular feedback to stakeholders

  • Plan and delegate activities for direct reports 

  • Assessing staff performance against agreed performance standards/objectives and/or competencies at least annually and develop meaningful and achievable personal development plans and objectives

  • Be responsible for the self-development of skills and competencies through participation in learning and development activities, and to maintain up to date technical and professional knowledge relevant to the post

  • The post holder will review complex information identifying trends that may denote where improvements may be required

  • Provide reports and proposals for improvement

 

Other Responsibilities:

  • Develop understanding on specific emerging technologies and good practices and then facilitate and develop this knowledge within the IT team.

  • Undertake any other appropriate duties as specified by the Digital Operational Management Team.
