Job purpose

As part of its ongoing investment is cancer services the Trust is purchasing a new EPIC electronic patient record which it intends to implement in March 2023. In addition, the Trust is also building a new £70m oak cancer centre at the heart of its campus in Sutton.

​

Managing a delivery team, the Senior Project Managers role will be to take ownership of a specific workstream in the DHR programme. The post holder will be allocated of one of the following areas based on experience:

  • Delivery of new interfaces from the DHR to 3rd party systems

  • The migration of data from existing legacy systems to the new DHR, and provision an on-line archive of data

  • The delivery of new end user technology for both the EPIC and Oak Cancer Centre programmes.

Key areas of responsibility

  • Responsible for the effective delivery of key strategic IT projects.

  • Ensure delivery of key elements against agreed milestones, budget and timelines with demonstration of success, outcomes measure and key performance indicators.

  • Responsible for maintaining the project planning, including project reporting, monthly highlight reports, updating the risk logs, producing exception reports and ensuring that all work remains on target to deliver agreed objective.

  • Ability to work as part of a larger team and when required independently.

  • Supports and enforces the department’s strategic vision and delivers projects to support the RMH IT Roadmap.

  • Work with Project Board and end users to design changes in working practices which comply with the functionality of the system being implemented and to offer solutions to risks associated with processes.

  • Work with external (and internal) suppliers to ensure effective project delivery within time, budget and agreed quality standards.

  • Manage priorities and resolve conflicts, prioritising those projects and activities that contribute to achieving strategic objectives, improved patient care and operational efficiencies.

  • Participate in the design, procurement and implementation of RMH systems, ensuring value for money and quality assurance.

  • Identify and manage project risks including registering risks on the corporate risk register. Develop and maintain project risk logs ensuring effective communication, ownership and resolution.

  • Actively participate and co-operate with any audits carried out by internal and external auditors and the implementation of any associated recommendations. Ensure that a comprehensive record of projects is maintained for any such audit.

  • Establish effective stakeholder management arrangements and communications strategies including the production of communication materials.

  • Present complex information to a range of audiences both in verbal and written formats.

  • Develop appropriate policies and procedures in support of the project implementation.

  • Be responsible for the monitoring of project budgets ensuring any deviations are escalated at the earliest opportunity.

  • Provide mentoring to junior project managers as appropriate.

  • Assess project issues, schedule resources and manage capacity and conflicts across multiple projects.

Education and Development Responsibility

  • The post holder will be responsible for co-ordinating the training for the projects that they manage.

  • The post holder will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of effective change management processes that are relevant to the projects in their portfolio.

Management and Leadership Responsibility

  • The post-holder will support the specific analysis of the impact projects on current working practices and work with appropriate members of the organisation to address the change management requirements for successful delivery and full MHRA approval as appropriate.

  • The post-holder will be expected to ensure that all projects for which they are responsible follow recognised and agreed standards (for example, PRINCE 2) and to also apply the appropriate Trust standards for project control.

  • Together with the Digital Diagnostics Programme Manager, the post-holder will review project progress and performance and ensure that lessons-learned are documented and appropriately shared.

  • The post-holder is expected to maintain knowledge of current RM issues and be mindful of the impact of any issues to current and future projects for which they have responsibility.

  • The post-holder is expected to work effectively with RM project boards, project teams, customers, suppliers and other stakeholders to understand and resolve project issues where these occur.

  • The post-holder will identify and initiate appropriate changes to projects under their charge, with agreement from the project board(s).

  • The post-holder will establish and maintain appropriate relationships with functional leads, other project managers, project stakeholders, managers, clinicians and suppliers.

  • Develop, and agree with the users and suppliers a communication plan and ensure that all those involved in project(s) are clearly communicated with using that agreed plan.

  • Analyse and communicate the impact of project(s) and work with organisations to address the change management implications needed to achieve project deliverables.

  • The post-holder will be required to develop and submit business cases for the Digital Diagnostics programme.
