About the role

We are currently looking to recruit a Senior Software Engineer in our London, Warrington or Leicester sites.

 

The Targeted Intercept Engineering team sit within Service Strategy & Development in Digital, Data and Technology (DDaT). 

Service Strategy & Development’s manages the:

  • Overall coordination of the agency’s investment strategy and roadmap for capability development and skills growth.

  • Deployment of hi-end capabilities in support of live operations, providing NCA with capabilities for 21st century law enforcement.

Service Strategy & Development leads on specifying, designing, developing, delivering and supporting new technical capabilities (operational, business, back office and corporate) across the agency.

 

Key Responsibilities

In a team of IT professionals, the Senior Software Engineer will:

  • Be responsible for scoping, design, implementation and maintenance of technical Intelligence applications.

  • Manage software solutions to enable staff to gather and analyse complex, sensitive data.

  • Interact daily with the engineering service support, development and infrastructure teams.

  • Conduct remote site surveys, Health and Safety Management, including Risk Assessment. 

  • Provide Business Continuity Management assistance with regard to 1st line technical support.

  • Assist in the training of systems throughout the UK and overseas as and when required. 

Person Specification

You will need to demonstrate the below behaviours (assessed at interview only):

  • Managing a Quality Service

 

You will also need to demonstrate the below technical criteria:

  • Strong Object Oriented programming experience. C#, Python or Java

  • Understanding of the full software lifecycle and IP protocols

  • Excellent problem solving skills

  • A good working understanding of network principles

 

You will also have the below qualifications or experience:

Essential:

  • Relevant degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Physics or Mathematics or equivalent relevant experience.

Desirable:

  • PRINCE2 Foundation

  • ITIL version 3 Foundation

  • CPIA/RIPA trained

 

Please note

  • The NCA is a 24/7 organisation, and working patterns must support business requirements. You may be required to respond at short notice or outside of core hours.

  • Individuals will be required to undertake and pass a substance misuse test as part of pre-employment checks.

  • To be considered, you will need to successfully complete a SC Enhanced clearance before commencing the role with the ability to obtain a DV clearance within the first 12 months in post.

  • On occasions officers may be required to travel throughout the UK and overseas.
