About the role
We are currently looking to recruit Senior Field Engineers in the Midlands area (although other locations may be considered).
The Field Engineering team sits within the Service Strategy & Development Department in Digital Data and Technology (DDaT). Service Strategy & Development are responsible for the:

Overall coordination of the agency’s investment strategy and roadmap for capability development and skills growth.

Deployment of hi-end capabilities in support of live operations, providing NCA with capabilities for 21st century law enforcement.
Service Strategy & Development Department leads on specifying, designing, developing, delivering and supporting new technical capabilities (operational, business, back office and corporate) across the agency.
Key Responsibilities
In a team of IT professionals, the field engineer will be using their skills and expertise to:

To execute and manage the successful delivery output of technical and scientific based projects within Service Strategy & Development, including in challenging and high risk environments such as at height and in remote and difficult locations

Ensure collaboration opportunities are explored with government and commercial enterprise in the furtherance of National Crime Agency (NCA) technical covert surveillance capability.

Implement/supervise the successful delivery of research/development project outputs and undertake the evaluation of prototype technical surveillance equipment in support of Agency operations.

Provide detailed advice to the organisation and external partners in support of on-going research and evaluation projects.

Provide advice on legislation, policy, tactical options and evidential opportunities to assist in the planning and implementation of investigations and operations.

Represent the organisation at forums both internally and externally and contribute to the development of innovate techniques for use in covert environments.

Monitor operational performance in relation to covert surveillance.

Promote professional standards and provide advice, support and develop management reports in relation to criminal and misconduct allegations that impact on organisational delivery or the Agency’s reputation (as required).

Manage/coach and develop staff.
Person Specification
To be successful in this role you will need to be a team player who can work well autonomously and feed into the successful delivery of technical and scientific based projects. You should be able to seek out and ensure that collaboration opportunities are explored with government and commercial enterprise in the furtherance of National Crime Agency technical covert surveillance capability.

You will also need to demonstrate the below technical criteria:

Practical working knowledge of Health & Safety in complex and high risk work settings

Good working knowledge of RF and IP cabling and connectors

Understanding of working at heights and management of this, and associated risks such as COSHH
-
Ability to Work at Height in an outdoor environment as part of a team in challenging and remote locations
You will also have the below qualifications:
Essential:
-
Relevant degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Physics or Mathematics or equivalent relevant experience
Desirable:
-
Understanding of RF Safety, rigging and lifting activities and the various regulations that apply to them
Please note

The NCA is a 24/7 organisation, and working patterns must support business requirements. You may be required to respond at short notice or outside of core hours.
-
Individuals will be required to undertake and pass a substance misuse test as part of pre-employment checks.
-
To be considered, you will need to successfully complete a SC Enhanced clearance before commencing the role with the ability to obtain a DV clearance within the first 12 months in post.

On occasions officers may be required to travel throughout the UK and overseas.
