About the role

The National Cyber Crime Unit (NCCU) leads the UK’s fight against cybercrime and uses specialist capabilities and expertise to support law enforcement partners across the UK and coordinate the entire UK response to cybercrime. 

We are currently looking to recruit a DevOps/Infrastructure Engineer at our London office.

NCCU Cyber Engineering Team’s focus is to provide key data capabilities and services which are used primarily by operational, intelligence, and strategy teams from NCCU in their mission to tackle the threat posed by cyber-dependent crime. 

Cyber Engineering can provide advice on possible approaches, opportunities and suitability of products, for technical operational work outside of the forensic remit.

Joining our  London team, as a Senior DevOps Engineer you will own the overall DevOps process within the NCCU along with setting the strategies for products and engaging with the wider NCA.

You will also provide support and leadership to a small team of DevOps/ infrastructure Engineers.

Within this role you may be exposed to images of Child Sexual Exploitation: Those involved in child sexual abuse and exploitation target the most vulnerable and innocent members of our community. The NCA works tirelessly and diligently against these individuals and you may be expected to work directly or indirectly in tackling this threat. This may involve exposure to child sexual abuse images and material and you should consider and be aware of the sensitive nature of the work before deciding to apply.

To provide support all officers working on or assisting this type of operational activity will undergo a psychological assessment on taking up the role and at regular intervals once in post.

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Manage a small team providing support, technical leadership and guidance, building on the existing DevOps culture and implementing automation wherever possible.

  • Engage across the NCA to ensure NCCU alignment with other DevOps initiatives. Contribute to setting direction.

  • Responsible for technical ownership of a number of NCCU systems. Developing approaches to improve and iterate products.

  • Be responsible for CI/CD approaches and ensure appropriate KPIs are set to ensure product performance can be monitored and improvement upon.

  • Monitor DevOps best practices and find opportunities to implement best practice

Person Specification

To  be successful in this role you will manage team responsible for DevOps ways of working within the Cyber Engineering team. You will set and monitor the delivery of the team’s priority objectives, collaboratively  work with other teams within NCCU and the wider NCA.

The successful candidate will be expected to keep up to date with DevOps approaches and adopt new techniques to improve service delivery.

 

 You will need to demonstrate the below behaviours:

  • Leadership

  • Delivering at Pace

You will also need to demonstrate the below technical and experience  criteria:

  • Strong Linux experience

  • Ability to demonstrate significant scripting experience including the use of Terraform

  • Experience of CI/CD(Gitlab) and version control (Git).

  • Experience of implementing agile practices

You will also have the below qualifications or experience:

Desirable:

  • Experience in Amazon Web Services

  • Qualification /certification in information assurance and information security, e. SANS, CISSP, or relevant Master course

  • Qualification / certification or equivalent relevant experience in one or more IT systems technologies

  •  ITIL foundation

Please note

  • The NCA is a 24/7 organization, and working patterns must support business requirements. You may be required to respond at short notice or outside of core hours.

  •  Individuals will be required to undertake and pass a substance misuse test as part of pre-employment checks

  •  The successful individual will need to have a valid SC Vetting clearance at the point of entrance or be willing to take and pass the Agency’s vetting clearance process at SC Level.   While in post, there might be a requirement for the candidate to be DV cleared

  •  Aspects of this role might involve viewing Child Sexual Exploitation material
