The appointment of experienced senior finance leaders Adele Taylor as Executive Director of Resources and Andrew Vallance as Head of Finance has led to substantial improvements to both our governance arrangements and our financial resilience over the past 18 months.

The Council has now implemented its Action Plan adopted in response to a thorough CIPFA governance review in 2019/20. Recent developments include:

• Audit and Governance Committee re-established

• Capital Review Board set up, chaired by Head of Finance

• Head of Pension Fund post established and filled

• Improved and comprehensive budget monitoring report to Cabinet bi-monthly

• Development of new Internal Audit arrangements

• Earlier budget process, including more robust Medium Term Financial Strategy

 

The recent restructure of the Finance Team is the latest stage in our development plan and will build capacity and resilience into the team. As well as roles we recruited earlier in the year to strengthen the Finance Team we are now recruiting for a Finance Business Partner.
