Welcome
Thank you for your interest in our organisation and in these new roles.
The Nuffield Foundation aims to advance social well-being, principally through the funding of research. With an asset base which has increased in recent years to over £400 million, we recently revisited our original objects to consider how they can best be interpreted to meet the changing needs of our society.
The research we fund aims to improve the design and operation of social policy, particularly in Education, Welfare, and Justice. We want to continue to play our part in improving people's lives by understanding the social and economic factors that affect their life chances, as well as understanding the significance of new trends and disruptive forces – social, demographic, technological and economic – that are changing the structures and context of society today.
In 2017, we published a new strategic plan, setting out an ambitious programme of work that will see our charitable expenditure increase substantially over the next five years as we refocus our funding priorities. These priorities include investment in a number of relatively large, complex and innovative areas, which will change the way we work both internally and in our engagement with partner organisations. We also have a significant change programme underway as we update and refresh our suite of management systems and processes over the next couple of years.
Having taken up my role at the beginning of this year, tasked with reshaping our finance and systems support functions, I am looking to recruit two new individuals into these different but complementary roles, so that Finance can play an active part in supporting and driving the Foundation’s change agenda. It is a very exciting time to join our organisation, and a great opportunity for finance professionals to play a key role in organisational transformation.
One of the traits that will be shared by the two new appointments, aside from their strong technical credentials, will be a natural ‘customer service’ ethos. You will recognise that the highest-achieving support functions are those where there is a core instinct to understand what the wider organisation is trying to achieve and to ensure that systems, processes and management information are designed and flexed to best support the delivery of those aspirations efficiently and effectively.
This is a rare opportunity to join a long-established, well-funded, independent foundation and to play a key role in a transformative period of organisational and societal change.
