Financial Controller

£55,000 - £58,000 per annum

Job Aim

Reporting to the Director of Finance and Information Systems, the Financial Controller will manage day to day operations of the finance department, developing and implementing financial processes to meet the changing needs of the organisation.

 

Responsibilities, including but not limited to:

 

  • Oversee all financial accounts and investments

  • Review, streamline and manage the operation of all financial control processes, ensuring the appropriate balance between effective controls and efficient operations both within Finance and in the wider Foundation.

  • Ensure that financial processes operate within agreed Service Level Agreements.

  • Manage the annual audit, working closely with the Communications team and other internal stakeholders to ensure that the annual review aspect of the report and the audited accounts are consistent and coherent.

  • Produce regular financial management reports for SMG and budget holders.  Create monthly and annual reports to identify results, trends, and financial forecasts

  • Work closely with the Grants Finance Partner in enabling that role to provide fully effective financial support to the grants / programmes teams; provide a financial partnering role for all ‘back office’ functions

  • Manage the finance system and the chart of accounts to ensure that the system supports and is aligned with the wider Foundation’s strategy and operations

  • Manage the administration of the investment portfolio including US regulatory requirements; support the Investment Director in ensuring compliance with requirements of the investment portfolio

  • Manage all aspects of the balance sheet, particularly including the fixed asset register

  • Work closely with the HR team to ensure that payroll, pension and life assurance processes are delivered effectively and on time

  • Assist Director of Finance and Information Systems with budgets and financial plans for the Foundation based on research and data reports

  • Report to the Director of Finance and Information Systems with timely and accurate financial information

  • Manage VAT returns and other statutory / regulatory / financial compliance returns

  • Manage the insurance policies

  • Manage the relationships with the auditors, bank and other external finance stakeholders

  • Line management of the Finance Administrator

Experience

  • Several years in managing and improving financial control processes, including with Service Level Agreements (E)

  • Solid experience in managing a statutory accounting process, including management of the external audit process (E)

  • Experience in administering an investment portfolio (HD)

  • Experience of line managing staff members (HD)
