About MOPAC

The Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) is the organisation through which the Mayor of London exercises his role as the Police and Crime Commissioner of London. We work to deliver the Mayor’s ambitious agenda for making our city safer for all, and to fulfil his statutory responsibilities for the maintenance of an efficient and effective police service for the nation’s capital.

MOPAC is now looking for a new Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to support the delivery of the Mayor’s ambitious and wide-ranging agenda to improve policing, reduce crime, tackle serious violence and safeguard children.

While we are a relatively small organisation of around 150 employees, our impact is big. We provide appropriate oversight of the Met’s strategic, operational and financial performance. We agree and oversee the £3.3bn policing budget for London and commission vital services supporting some of the most vulnerable people in our city and intervening to prevent crime and offending.  Over the last couple of years MOPAC has played a key role in;

  • The funding and creation of the MPS Violent Crime Task Force, which has quickly established itself as a determined and effective adversary to the serious criminals behind so much violence and misery in our city

  • Tens of thousands of young Londoners benefiting from new projects and services funded from City Hall and delivered by partners

  • Launching London’s first Violence Reduction Unit, taking a public health approach to addressing the underlying causes of violence

  • Launching an ambitious £44m strategy for tackling violence against women and girls.

  • Opening London’s first Child House – the Lighthouse - providing specialist support to child victims of sexual abuse and exploitation

  • Publishing a ground-breaking research report into the Metropolitan Police Gangs Matrix, putting forward recommendations to address a number of areas of concern to communities

Reducing violence, keeping children safe, tackling violence against women and girls, standing up to hate, intolerance and extremism and building trust and confidence in communities are just some of the critical issues facing London. Further information can be found here

The Black Lives Matter Movement has brought the issue of structural racism, and particularly its link to public authorities including policing, to the forefront of people’s minds. MOPAC’s Public Attitudes Survey found that “those living in more deprived areas and black/ mixed race respondents report more negative views than the rest of the population”. MOPAC is playing a key role in changing this. We hold the Metropolitan Police Service to account for the exercise of their duties relating to equality, ensuring that the principles of equality are embedded into policing in order to maintain the trust and confidence of those who visit, work or live in London. The Mayor has said “I stand with the millions of people around the world who are saying loud and clear that Black Lives Matter. Londoners from all ages, races and backgrounds have been coming together to protest racial injustice and structural racism. This moment must be a catalyst for systemic, lasting change to tackle the racism and inequalities that black people still face today, in this country and elsewhere.”

If you want to be a catalyst for change and be part of keeping London as one of the safest cities in the world and making a difference to the lives of Londoners, please do apply.
