Hello and welcome to Mid Sussex!

 

Thank you so much for your interest in working with us. My name is Julie Galvin and I am privileged and proud to be the Assistant Director for Governance here at Mid Sussex. I joined this small but mighty Council in late February 2025, and have been delighted and amazed in equal parts at the ambition, pace, and sense of belonging woven into the Mid Sussex culture. 

 

The governance team deliver three critical and high profile roles;  legal services, member services and elections. Our work supports our business partners to deliver place shaping, resident services, innovation, project work and local democracy. The team is committed to continuous service improvement and self and team development. We pride ourselves on attaining and maintaining a safe space to grow and learn.

 

The legal team works at all levels of the organisation, providing an opportunity to be close to decision making from project inception to completion. Our organisational development team has built a successful Council-wide framework to provide training and development opportunities. The Council’s senior management team have allocated time, support and budget to futureproof our people in readiness for the far-reaching opportunity that Local Government Reorganisation presents.

 

Our office space has just been refurbished. This open and welcoming space facilitates collaboration and proactive working with our client teams. No two days at the Council are the same… right now, we are supporting our contracts team to roll out simpler recycling to all our residents. Our estates and housing teams are actively working to expand our temporary accommodation portfolio. Our planning colleagues have sought advice on a wide range of net zero and biodiversity requirements and we are instructed in many commercial transactions to support the Council’s large commercial property portfolio and projects. Our communities team are at the forefront of community liaison and we help them to keep our district safe and accessible to all of our residents. In parallel, we have just appointed our project team to deliver the first Mayoral elections for Sussex in May 2026.
