Welcome

From Eilish McGuinness, Chief Executive, The National Lottery Heritage Fund

Dear Candidate,

Thank you for your interest in becoming Executive Director of Business Services at The National Lottery Heritage Fund. This is an exciting opportunity for an outstanding person, to join a dynamic  organisation with an inspiring remit and a positive culture, and to make a real contribution to the heritage of the UK and to our national life.

The National Lottery Heritage Fund is the largest dedicated grant funder of the UK’s heritage. Distributing National Lottery grants, we fund projects that sustain and transform the UK's heritage.  We have a broad definition of heritage, funding projects from local parks to landscapes, castles to community projects. We are a non-departmental public body accountable to Parliament via the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) although our decisions about individual applications and policies are independent.  We are a UK wide body with colleagues located in offices across all four nations of the UK.

This is a pivotal moment to join the Fund.  We will be launching our new strategy in spring this year, which will set out a clear vision for heritage over the next 10 years and determine how we will ensure that money raised for good causes by National Lottery players makes a decisive difference for heritage, people and places, right across the UK.  We need to implement this strategy, ensuring that we work in a flexible and responsive manner, supporting the heritage sector who have had to respond to challenges post covid and economically, while adhering to the principles of managing public money and being accountable for our investment. A key focus of our new strategy is on partnerships and collaboration, allowing the Fund to support the heritage sector to become more sustainable and to create positive change across the UK’s heritage.

You will report directly to me, as Chief Executive, and will work alongside the other executive members in leading the organisation.  Of particular importance is supporting and advising me as the CEO and Accounting Officer, as I am accountable for the overall strategic direction, development, management and conduct of the National Heritage Memorial Fund and The National Lottery Heritage Fund.  You will also work closely with the Chair, Board of Trustees and Audit & Risk Committee and with UK and devolved governments, and with our sponsor department DCMS , and range of linked external bodies. The role oversees an exciting and developing portfolio, from IT, estates, to finance and people.   As a champion of equality, diversity and inclusion, you will ensure that we reach and support all sections of society and all parts of the UK, as well as developing the Fund’s own workforce diversity.

We are seeking an exceptional candidate with previous experience of operating at senior leadership level in a complex organisation with public and governmental accountability. You will be a professionally qualified accountant who has a demonstrable track record of effective organisational financial management and experience of driving improved performance across multiple functions as well as the ability to challenge and innovate.  As an excellent communicator, you will bring strong stakeholder engagement skills and be comfortable working closely with Board members and representing the Fund with senior stakeholders externally. A values-driven leader, you will role model our values of being inclusive, ambitious, collaborative and trusted, inspiring colleagues to live our values and demonstrate the behaviours which bring them to life.

If you have the requisite skills, experience, knowledge and commitment to the values of our organisation I encourage you to apply and look forward to your application.
