Welcome

Dear Candidate,

I am delighted that you are interested in the role of UK Research and Innovation’s (UKRI) Chief Finance Officer.

UKRI was established a year ago through a joining of seven research councils, Research England and Innovate UK. With an annual budget of £7.5 billion a year to fund ground-breaking research and new enterprise growth, our combined strength and cross cutting capabilities mean we play a critical part in delivering the Government’s Industrial Strategy. This will require us to become much more interventionist, flexible and agile as an organisation, with the risk appetite needed to seize new opportunities.

As Chief Finance officer, we are looking for exceptional candidates who can bring intellect, challenge and commercial acumen to the organisation. You’ll play a leading role in setting the overall strategic direction of research and innovation funding in the UK - working with our Board and Executive Committee to provide strategic and operational leadership on short and long-term financial objectives.

Now is an incredibly exciting time to join UKRI. We are pushing the frontiers of human knowledge and delivering benefits for UK society and the economy – but we can’t do this without diversity of perspectives, expertise and experiences. We welcome applications are welcome from all, especially women, minority ethnic and disabled candidates who are under-represented at this level in public life.

Once again thank you for your interest and I look forward to meeting you at a later stage of the process.

Sir Mark Walport
