Head of Finance (Planning and Reporting)

Role Purpose…

The Head of Finance (Planning and Reporting) will be responsible for the overall management of Macmillan’s financial plans, budgets and financial performance reporting. To provide management and Trustees with financial information, advice and support they need to lead, manage and make effective decisions

In this role, your accountabilities and responsibilities are…

  • Lead, manage and develop the budgeting and financial planning cycle, working closely with the Strategy and Performance Directorate and the Heads of Finance (Directorates) and ensure this is delivered efficiently and effectively

  • Ensure changes to forecasts are transparent and based on solid rationale

  • Provide accurate, robust financial information to the Executive Management Team and the Board in a timely manner in order to guide the organisations decision making. Work with the Director of Finance to ensure board papers are relevant and insightful

  • Support the update process for Macmillan’s strategy through financial modelling and analysis

  • Provide clear, insightful reporting, linking financial metrics to the key performance metrics

  • Represent Finance on Programme Boards where appropriate (cross Macmillan Programmes)

  • To advise and support management and key stakeholders to ensure effective decisions across Macmillan

  • Lead, manage and develop the Monthly Management Accounts ensuring they are relevant, accurate and timely

  • Lead, manage and develop the Planning and Reporting Team

  • To perform the Planning function for the Finance, Legal and Audit Directorate

  • Deputise for the Director of Finance at the EST and Finance and Audit Committee as required

  • Drive continuous improvement

  • Support ad hoc projects as required

  • Fully support the audit processes (external and internal)

  • Be an active member of the Planning, Performance and Resourcing Board

  • Deliver inspirational and supportive line management, building a committed, empowered and successful team through effective selection, coaching, development and performance management throughout the employee lifecycle. This will also include role modelling the Macmillan behaviours and owning people management challenges

  • Ensure that Macmillan’s Finance processes for Restricted Funds continue to be effective

  • Sound working knowledge and application of Macmillan's people management policies and practices

  • Be familiar with and adhere to all relevant Macmillan policies and procedures at all times

  • Any other duties as reasonably required in line with skills, knowledge, and experience to contribute to Macmillan’s wider success

To do this role, you will have…

  • Qualified accountant

  • Experience of, and achievement in successfully leading a Finance function of comparable size

  • A team player, with experience of influencing senior executives

  • Significant experience of financial planning, budgeting and management reporting.

  • Effective communicator, able to build strong relations with key stakeholders and deliver complex financial information to people outside of the finance function

  • Experience of proactively improving processes

  • Ensure that Macmillan’s Executive Team and Trustees are provided with the advice, support and financial information needed to effectively lead and manage the organisation
