Finance Business Partner

Role Purpose…

Provide expert support and advice to your directorate(s) on financial decision making, preparing analysis and management reports. Challenge the directorate(s) to take the best decisions for the organisation, taking into account the financial impact, most effective use of resources and corporate strategic objectives

In this role, your accountabilities and responsibilities are…

  • Build strong relations with senior management that you support on financial issues, providing financial reporting and management information and signposting as appropriate to specialist finance functions

  • Provide analysis and scrutiny of financial outcomes and other indicators of business performance to inform decision making

  • Review management accounts monthly, investigate variances and challenge latest estimates. Provide insightful commentary and identify risks and opportunities

  • With the support of the Senior Finance Business Partner, manage the directorate(s) long term financial framework and annual budgeting process in coordination with budget holders and EST Directors, in line with Macmillan’s timetable

  • Provide financial support to all relevant projects / strategies by providing analysis, expert advice and robust challenge as required. Be a proactive member of all relevant programme and project groups

  • Provide support to the Financial Accounts team at year end in terms of process and analysis

  • Work closely with other areas of finance to provide a joined-up approach across the department. Work on cross finance initiatives as required and contribute to the development of improved financial systems and ways of working

  • Share knowledge to develop both technical and business partnering skills across the team and within the directorate(s) you support

  • Gain a sound working knowledge of Macmillan's people management policies and practices and apply these to lead and motivate your Finance Advisers, provide opportunities to develop their technical and business partnering skills. Role model the Macmillan behaviours and own any people management challenges arising in your team

  • Be familiar with and adhere to all relevant Macmillan policies and procedures at all times

  • Any other duties as reasonably required in line with skills, knowledge, and experience to contribute to Macmillan’s wider success

To do this role, you will have…

  • Accountancy Qualification – CIMA, ACCA, ACA or equivalent (final stage or qualified)

  • Technical finance knowledge

  • Strong business partnering skills – building and maintaining relationships and influencing across a variety of stakeholders

  • Advanced excel skills

  • Strong team working skills

  • Management accounts experience within a complex organisation

  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication and influencing skills

  • Demonstrated ability to complete projects and tasks with a can-do attitude

  • Flexible approach to work and an ability to work effectively under pressure

  • Financial modelling and report writing experience

  • Ability to effectively use negotiation and conflict resolution skills
