£29,970 - £38,500 per annum*

Team: Group Finance/Government Financial Reporting

Location: The post will be based in London (1 Horse Guards Road) and/or Darlington (Feethams House)

Working pattern: The working hours of this post are 42 per week (including meal breaks of 1 hour a day) unless you have a legacy agreement as an existing Civil Servant. This post is available on a full time, part time or job share basis, and flexible working hours can be accommodated.

*National: £29,970 - £35,500 / London, £32,970 - £38,500. HMT are offering up to £7000 in an accountancy allowance, dependent on level of qualification.

Key Accountabilities

This is an exciting time to be joining these high profile and high performing HM Treasury teams. You will not only be a key contact liaising with different stakeholders and contributing to aspects of the accounts production process, providing support to some complex accounting areas, providing accounting analysis and advice for the department’s policies, but also supporting other teams within HM Treasury and across government.

To succeed, you will be a finance professional with advanced excel skills and financial knowledge and experience. You'll be able to understand and interpret governance requirements and communicate and present information to suit the needs of the user. You'll be able to work well with partners and focus on problem solving in a pressurised environment with good attention to detail and the ability to build excellent working relationships at all levels with a variety of stakeholders, including auditors.

The roles will be required to deliver the following responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the production of the accounts. Using technical expertise to prepare and submit complex journal adjustments in production of the accounts and producing individual notes to the accounts and financial statements, working at pace and collaborating with team members.

  • Liaising with National Audit Office staff, ensuring smooth progression of the audit work, working with little oversight to come up with effective and creative solutions, and responding to complex audit queries.

  • Develop and nurture strong professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders while acting as a subject expert, providing technical accounting advice in line with Government accounting reporting frameworks.

  • Analysing current processes to identify and implement ways to improve processes and financial control.

  • Support additional finance processes where required, including in-year budget management and Main and Supplementary Estimates, and small company account preparations.

Required Qualifications

  • CCAB (or equivalent) qualified accountant or part-qualified accountant

Required Skills, Experience and Behaviours

The below criteria will be assessed in your application form. 

 

The lead criteria is: Experience of working on financial statements preparation and financial accounting for complex consolidations, delivering against competing deadlines and priorities (Experience).
