In common with all public services, we are working hard to respond to the wide range of operational and financial challenges that we face, including those from COVID19. Hertfordshire currently has a high performing finance function, but we are not resting on our laurels. As part of this ongoing transformation, and to ensure finance continues to be a high performing function, we have reviewed how finance supports the organisation, reorganised our structure and created a new team within finance to help meet these challenges.

The Head of Finance - Resources and Commercial will lead this new team and be the finance lead in key areas of commercialism, linking into external companies and the Council’s transformation plans. They will play an integral part of the Resources Department senior leadership teams, helping to develop solutions and further innovation to meet any challenges the Council may face.

​

The Finance Manager - Financial Planning and Accounting role will play a key part in helping deliver the financial sustainability of the organisation. They will manage the Financial Planning and Accounts team playing a key role in the preparing the Integrated Plan and supporting the Head of Corporate finance with identifying service improvements and the closure of accounts.

Our vision for finance is to act as a proactive enabler of change, ensuring that finance is at the heart of decision making and organisational change and enables the council to meet the challenges ahead.

Naturally, we need to attract candidates with extensive practical finance experience. As important as your technical skills will be your positive attitude and approach to innovation. We need open and collaborative leaders, who embrace and champion opportunities for change and improvement, and who naturally look to build strong and engaging relationships with council teams and partners across the wider Hertfordshire public service.

You will also want to play an active part in the senior leadership of the overall finance function, working as an integral part of the finance management team to provide high quality enabling services across the council.
