Welcome

Welcome Letter from CFO, Rakesh Patel and

Deputy CFO, Carol McLaughlin

Dear Candidate

Thank you for your interest in joining our team here at Epsom and St Helier Hospitals. During these challenging times our Finance teams are providing professional financial support to our Frontline Services.  Most people have been doing this successfully from home and we are now adapting our response to provide a safe working environment for colleagues to continue to provide excellent financial services.  We are proud of all we have achieved over the past year and we are looking forward to continuing to develop our people and build on this going forward.

Our achievements

Some highlights from the past year include:

  • May 2020 - We opened a new community hospital, named in honour of the pioneering nurse Mary Seacole, as part of the NHS response to the coronavirus pandemic.

  • Dec 2019 – We jointly won the Governance award from the Healthcare Financial Management Association, together with Sutton and Surrey Downs Clinical Commissioning Groups, for our work on our joint financial recovery plan.

  • Sep 2019 – Government announcement of funding for Epsom and St Helier to be one of six new hospitals to be built by 2025, with funding of £500m from the first wave of the Health Infrastructure Plan (HIP1).

  • Sep 2019 - Epsom and St Helier hospitals achieved an overall Good rating from the Care Quality Commission.

Finance Department

The Finance team is located in modern high specification corporate offices, located moments away from the centre of Epsom and is well serviced by public transport and offsite local car parking.

Staff development

In 2017, we started a Finance Graduate Trainee scheme. The trainees were given extensive training in all areas of finance and received funding to study towards a Finance qualification. The scheme was very successful and all of the trainees have gone on to promoted roles.

We are committed to developing everyone in the team and we achieved ACCA and CIMA accreditation for our training programmes. We are accredited from ACCA, CIMA and CIPFA for Continuing Professional Development.

What is expected of you?

All of us who work at Epsom and St Helier choose to sign up to our values, behaviours and expectations.  Above all we value RESPECT.  By choosing to work here, you also choose to value and role model respect. This means having respect for the Trust and your roles and responsibilities, as well as colleagues, patients and anyone who interacts with the Trust.

Thank you again for your interest in joining our team and I look forward to receiving your application.

Yours sincerely
