Head of Finance
English National Opera is the nation’s opera company, with distinctive work and creativity at the heart of what we do. In addition, we regularly take opera out to those who might not have experienced it before.

We have an ambitious four-year creative strategy underpinned by exciting commercial and capital development plans that will transform the ENO’s ability to change lives through opera.
We are now seeking to appoint a Head of Finance who will lead the internal efficient running of the Finance team and ensure it is fit for purpose. This role will be instrumental in supporting the ENO’s strategic aspirations by enabling the finance team to become a high performing function.
Your key responsibilities will include:

Day to day financial management (including payroll, VAT, tax credit calculation, CapEx, purchase and sales ledger) and oversight of the organisation’s financial affairs, implementing effective financial controls and ensuring accuracy of financial reporting;

Management of financial resources and compliance with regulatory and public sector obligations and taking a lead role in communication with the Arts Council;

Management of the audit and annual accounts process and ownership of the relationships with HMRC , our External Auditors and the Charity Commission;

Lead on a significant IT and process change programme across the finance function;

Deliver appropriate support to fulfil the requirements of the Investment Committee, the Risk & Audit Committee and the Finance Committee;

Management and development of a medium sized team.

The successful candidate will be a fully qualified finance professional (ACA/CIMA/ACCA/CIPFA) from the Charity, Commercial or wider Public Sector. You will be experienced and process-minded with a strong financial acumen. You will have a strong grasp and interest in technical accounting. You will bring a track record of developing a high performance culture. You will focus on priorities, maintain a strong grip on our sound financial management and provide timely information and advice to the COO, the rest of the senior management team and board of trustees.
Importantly, you will have the skills, sensitivity, and personal confidence to achieve the Finance team’s potential. While it is essential that the Finance team brings efficient and effective systems to support the productivity of the organisation, it is also critical that the team has the tenacity and imagination to drive forward the changing ENO business. You will be collaborative and inclusive in your approach to being an understanding and supportive business partner.
