About Dacorum Borough Council

Introduction

Thank you for your interest in the position of Assistant Director (Finance & Resources) at Dacorum Borough Council.

In common with all public sector organisations, the Council has worked hard to respond to the financial and operational challenges of recent years. We have placed organisational culture at the heart of our approach, combining customer focus with innovation and a positive attitude, which has enabled us not only to protect, but to enhance the services we deliver.

We know that there are further challenges ahead, but we believe that these challenges provide a real opportunity for our officers to make the most of their skills and to add real value to an organisation that serves 150,000 residents. We are looking for a dynamic Assistant Director (Finance & Resources) to be at the heart of this process.

As a member of the Corporate Management Team, you will contribute to the Council’s strategic development. You will need to be a clear communicator, able to engage confidently with elected Members, senior officers and a range of external stakeholders from both the private and public sectors, and to provide insightful analysis to inform and influence decision-making.

The Assistant Director (Finance & Resources) is responsible for Financial Services; Corporate Assets & Property Development; Revenues & Benefits; and, Commissioning, Procurement & Compliance. All of these services are well-regarded and led by talented technical specialists who are part of the broader Council Leadership Team. Under your leadership these services will continue working towards improving efficiency not just within their own operations, but across the Council-wide services they support.

As Deputy S151 Officer, you will drive strategic financial management and planning across the organisation. Just as important will be your ability to influence the culture of the Council, building effective relationships through an open and collaborative approach, to ensure that your teams are seen as enablers in the delivery of effective value-for-money services.

If you are committed to making a difference in the public sector, and have the drive and ambition to help Dacorum continue its journey then I would be delighted to hear from you.
