Welcome

From our Director of Finance

I am delighted you’re interested in the role of Head of Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) for the National Church Institutions.

This is a rare opportunity to join a unique family of organisations in what will be a stimulating, varied and rewarding role. This is a key leadership post, working as a member of the Senior Finance Team and taking core responsibility for delivering a high quality strategic business partnering service to the NCIs, underpinned by excellence in core financial reporting and planning.

The Finance team is a shared service function working across the NCIs, each of which play a different role in serving the work of the Church of England at a national level, with activities ranging from managing an £8bn endowment fund, to a policy making/grant-giving charity, a housing association and three multi-employer pension schemes. With a presence in every community in the country, and hundreds of years of history at its heart, you won’t find a more interesting and unusual organisation to work for!

As a department we are on a transformation journey, moving away from being a transactional/ compliance focused function to establish ourselves as a strategic partner to the NCIs. We’ve made big strides forward in the last three years, but we need your help to move our internal reporting and planning function to the next level.

We are looking for someone with the energy, drive and commitment to lead and motivate the team to strive for excellence in all that we do – placing a high emphasis on quality and consistency. You will know what good looks like and be able to facilitate the team to deliver it, identifying and implementing the necessary changes including technological solutions where appropriate. You will also help us to further embed business partnering across the NCIs, ensuring the team are well placed to provide value-added strategic decision-support to our clients.

I can certainly promise that you’ll be intellectually stretched and there will be new and unexpected challenges every day, but I can also tell you that you’ll be joining a great team of committed people who will make you feel really welcome and supported, and an organisation where our values are at the heart of what we do and who we are. If you have the grit and determination to succeed, and a collaborative, can-do approach, you’ll find there is a real opportunity to make a difference in an Institution which now more than ever plays a critical role in the life of our nation.

If this sounds like a role in which you could thrive, I’d love to hear from you.

Joanna Woolcock
