Welcome

Carbon Tracker is an independent financial think tank that carries out in-depth analysis on the impact of the energy transition on capital markets and the potential investment in high-cost, carbon-intensive fossil fuels.

Dear Candidate

Thank you for your interest in the role of Financial Controller at Carbon Tracker Initiative.

Carbon Tracker Initiative is a non-profit think tank with offices near London Bridge. Our objective is to campaign for, promote and achieve an understanding of the financial and environmental risks associated with carbon. Our goal is a climate-secure global energy market, where capital markets are aligned with the reality of climate change. The production and dissemination of our research seeks to rebalance the perceived exposure of the energy sector to climate-related financial risk, examining the implications of the wind-down of the fossil fuel sector in line with a transition to 2°C.

We are currently a team of 25 people in the UK, and 3 in the USA. The organisation is in an interesting stage of development, transitioning from a very small operation to a more established and larger group. In order to support our continuing growth, we are looking for a Financial Controller to bolster our financial management capabilities.

This role is an excellent opportunity for someone to get exposure to various aspects of financial management – from grant accounting to monthly management accounts, from bookkeeping and year-end to implementing and improving financial processes. We have come a long way since I joined Carbon Tracker Initiative three and a half years ago, and now we need a Financial Controller capable of managing the day-to-day finances of the organisation in order to increase our capacity to take on larger projects required at an organisational level.

We are looking for a friendly and open individual, with excellent organisational and communication skills. Suitable candidates will have exceptional attention to detail but will also be capable of stepping back and assessing the bigger picture. For example, someone who can diligently review the team’s expense claims and at the same time assess whether the expenses policy and claims process are adequate and where improvements can be made. We are looking for someone who can communicate what is necessary in terms of controls and process to team members with varying levels of financial knowledge and technological know-how.

2020 will be an exciting year for the climate movement in the UK, as the UNFCCC Conference of the Parties (COP26) is coming to Glasgow. We are currently planning our activities for the year ahead and we hope to find a Financial Controller keen to support the team and thereby contribute to the organisation’s success.

At Carbon Tracker Initiative we are committed to building and nurturing a strong culture of diversity and inclusion and we welcome applications from all qualified applicants, regardless of age, disability, gender identity or gender expression, race, ethnicity, religion or belief, sex, sexual orientation or any other equality characteristic.

I hope you enjoy finding out more about CTI and we look forward to hearing from you.

Yours sincerely
