Main job purpose
Working as a business partner, to provide strategic business and financial support for the Development and Enterprises team. This includes day to day financial analysis and reporting, support for longer term strategic planning, review of progress against strategic objectives, and general finance support for individual projects, including provision of information to assist fundraising and any other initiatives.
Key accountabilities

To provide full financial support for the Development and Enterprise department across all fundraising and commercial activity

Collaborate on strategic thinking, communication, implementation and monitoring of the Department’s business plan;
​

Ensure good governance, and at the same time, handle all aspects of compliance and ensure all statutory reporting requirements are met.

Optimizing reporting, ad hoc analysis and working with the team to deliver revenues through strategic initiatives;
​

Present at Board level and working with a wide range of stakeholders including Board members, funders, sponsors, investment managers, finance team and non-financial areas of the business;

Support members of the department in the presentation of financial information to potential supporters, sponsors or stakeholders;
​

Ensure that the department’s management and financial information is of the highest integrity and quality with appropriate financial controls.
Main responsibilities
Working to the priorities set by the Director of Development & Enterprises and the Director of Finance:
People Management:
-
Lead and line manage direct reports effectively, with due regard to performance management, development, coaching, guidance, training, recruitment and retention
-
Build in routine team meetings and one to one supervision meetings to provide an infrastructure of information flow, team and one to one support
-
Ensure professional standards are understood and followed by every team member
-
Support team members with any professional development or training needs as agreed with the Director of Finance
-
Manage operational and people issues arising from these staff up through the appropriate lines in order to recommend or effect any change as required
Key Finance:
-
Construct a three year strategic financial plan for fundraising and commercial activity and prepare budgets in discussion with the team and Finance Director
-
Provide timely and accurate monthly management accounts including income and expenditure, balance sheet and Key Performance Indicators.

Support members of the Team in collecting pledges and outstanding invoices.
-
Prepare monthly rolling risk weighted forecasts of income receivable, working closely with other members of the Team.

Working with the Central Finance Team, ensure complete and accurate transaction processing, payment of suppliers and collection of debts.

Optimise the amount of Gift Aid claimed by working with professional advisers and fundraising team to ensure compliance and revenue maximisation.

Ensure accurate and timely Gift Aid repayment claims.

Review financial and other information for or provided by the American Friends of Covent Garden and any similar overseas organisations subsequently established.

Ensure departmental compliance with the latest guidelines from the Charity Commission and HMRC
-
Liaise with HMRC on all aspects of tax relating to the Development and Enterprises department, including tax inspections
-
Manage the external auditors in their audit of the department
Key Fund-raising:
-
Provide members of the Development and Enterprises Team with accurate and timely financial information for inclusion in presentations to potential sponsors liaising with other members of the ROH Finance Team as appropriate.

Take an active role in developing team members understanding of financial disciplines, principally budgeting and reporting, by updating briefing papers for the team on VAT, Gift Aid or American Tax and providing updates at team meetings

Discuss tax effective giving and donations with potential and existing donors
-
Support Director of Finance, Director of Development and Enterprises and Fundraising Heads of Section in ad hoc analysis required by Board members or donors.

Review key presentations to potential funders and support the Fundraisers in the presentation of financial information for these presentations.

External relationships and advocacy:
-
Present at Fundraising Committee meetings to Senior Volunteers and Senior Royal Opera House Management monthly figures and ad hoc presentations on data trend analysis.

Liaise with donors or sponsors over ad hoc queries or potential gifts
-
Advocate for the Royal Opera House at Sector conferences and meetings, including Government and HMRC, on how tax changes could support the cultural sector.

Provide briefing papers on tax to Board on impact of the current tax regime compliance
Strategic planning:
-
Use CRM data to understand historic data trends and how income can be maximised. Use this information to create financial models and presentations that inform budget decisions.

Create income and cost Key Performance Indicators and research other organisations to measure performance.
System work:
-
Work as a member of the ROH Finance Team with a view to improving financial information, control and reporting systems across the House.

Work as part of a cross organizational team to develop and understand that the Customer Relationship Management tool, Tessitura, is compliant for UK Gift Aid law and optimizing the data output for fundraising purposes.

Person specification
Knowledge/Skills and Experience

Finance
-
Qualification from one of the CCAB-recognised Accountancy bodies or equivalent (ACCA, CIMA, ACA etc.)
-
Substantial accounting experience in a busy, tightly managed business, including: monthly reporting, budget preparation, financial modelling, cash flow reporting and invoice coding
-
Ability to ‘think outside the box’ and to assimilate data into meaningful financial information
-
Extensive experience of computerised accounting systems, preferably SUN
-
Able to develop areas of specialist knowledge or expertise as needed for the business
-
Relevant experience or understanding of charity finance issues and Gift Aid
