Welcome Letter
Dear candidate

Commercial Finance Business Partner
Corporate Finance Business Partner

Thank you for taking the time to consider applying for one of these roles. I hope that you will take the next step and put in an application.

Norwich City Council is an award-wining and inventive organisation with a huge ambition for both the place and the people who live here. We house 25% of city residents in 15,000 HRA dwellings, we own a growing housing company already building, selling and letting new homes, and we are actively exploring working in partnership with others to regenerate and develop our significant land holdings within the city. The Council derives a substantial and growing amount of income from commercial activities and we are now one of the most active councils in the country in acquiring high quality property to add to our growing commercial property portfolio. In addition, the Council is about to embark on its “Fit for the Future” change programme which focuses on empowering, matrix working, and smarter ways of working through the use of technology.
Both of these are value adding roles with significant exposure to key stakeholders and opportunities to influence innovative and diverse projects and policies. You will be a member of my Finance Management Team and will help us reshape and evolve the service towards a more proactive finance business partnering approach.

Whilst the roles are based totally in Norwich, you will be part of the LGSS finance community, a successful public sector shared service partner. (www.lgss.co.uk)

Norwich is a great place to live and work and has been named as one of the best places to live in the UK by The Sunday Times in 2018. It is a city rich in heritage and culture, a UNESCO world city of literature, and one of the top shopping destinations in the country. Norwich is home to the headquarters of 50 major companies and has the fastest growing economy in the east of England. The city is not far from the beautiful Norfolk Broads or the Norfolk coastline. I am looking for candidates with a modern outlook on financial management, a focus on collaborative team effort, and a passion for delivery. Technical financial ability is always essential, but to make a success you’ll need the communication skills to impress and influence up to corporate leadership team and Member level.

If you think that one of these roles is for you then please do apply. You do not need to have had a career to-date wholly in local government; indeed for the Commercial Finance Business Partner role it would be desirable that you have experience of working in a commercial organisation. Formal and informal training and support is promised to fill in any skills and knowledge gaps you may currently have to successfully deliver these roles.

If you would like an informal discussion before putting in your application then do let the managing consultant know and he’ll put you in touch.

I look forward to hearing from you

Karen Watling
Chief Finance Officer (S151 Officer)
