The financial challenge at Luton is unique, given the Council’s ownership of London Luton Airport Limited, the freehold owner of the airport. The Council has also been very successful in developing other commercial opportunities. This magnifies the operational and financial challenges arising from the COVID19 pandemic. The Council’s group accounts also include Foxhall Homes, a housing development company, so the group accounts, capital programme and financing offer great development opportunities for finance professionals.
The Council’s finance function is highly regarded. The most recent LGA peer review described it as ‘gold standard’. We see finance as a pro-active agent and enabler of change, always at the heart of decision-making and organisational development to ensure that the Council is continuously providing excellent services to the people of Luton and always working towards achieving its vision that by 2040 no-one in Luton is living in poverty.
Naturally, we need to attract candidates with extensive practical finance experience. As important as your technical skills will be your positive attitude and approach to innovation. We need open and collaborative leaders, who embrace and champion opportunities for change and improvement, and who naturally look to build strong and engaging relationships with council teams and partners across the wider Luton public service.
You will also want to play an active part in the senior leadership of the overall finance function, working as an integral part of the finance management team to provide high quality enabling services across the council.
