Welcome to HM Treasury and thank you for your interest in joining the Government Finance Profession (GFP).
The Treasury is the government’s economics and finance ministry, maintaining control over public spending, setting the direction of the UK’s economic policy and working to achieve strong sustainable economic growth. A workforce of around 1,300 people enable the Treasury to operate as a high performing organisation.
The 8 strong Financial Reporting, Accounting and Governance Team sits within the Corporate Centre Group which provides corporate systems, services, solutions and facilities to enable the Treasury Group to deliver effectively and efficiently.
The team not only produces the Treasury Group Annual Report and Accounts, but supports the department’s executive agencies, non-departmental public bodies and Treasury’s special purpose vehicles, in producing annual accounts. We also provide support to the Budget and Estimates process and cashflow forecasting. We have close relationships with the policy teams and provide assistance with advising on new policies and initiatives as well as providing financial support and advice regarding government interventions in the financial sector.
The team background is a mixture of long-standing civil servants and those joining in more recent years from the private sector. I myself have been in the Civil Service since I was 17 years old and have worked my way up from an admin assistant in the HMRC Stamp Office and various other roles within HMRC, before joining HMT in 2011. I was supported by HMRC and HMT in achieving my ACA professional qualification along the way. HMT offers flexible working and a great location to work, with our main office on the edge of St James’ Park.
We also have our very own staff funded Professional mouser, Gladstone, who can be found wandering the corridors or enjoying the outside space. He is quite the socialite with his own Twitter and Instagram accounts.
