More than just a job
Working at DBS
DBS issues 6 million checks every year and there are c.80,000 people on the barred lists. These lists provide information to employers and organisations, so they can prevent unsuitable people from working with children or vulnerable adults.
We also make complex decisions about whether to bar somebody from getting jobs in certain sectors. There are currently c.80,000 people who are not allowed to work with children or vulnerable adults.
Our disclosure office is based in Liverpool and our barring office is in Darlington.

Our recruitment commitment
Our recruitment processes are underpinned by the principle of selection for appointment on merit on the basis of fair and open competition. These are outlined in the Civil Service Commission’s recruitment principles.
At the Disclosure & Barring Service we have an incredibly broad remit; our work touches every citizen of the country. So, it’s important our employees come from the widest possible range of backgrounds, bringing us the widest possible range of perspectives and ways of thinking. We are committed to ensuring that all staff are able to realise their potential and achieve a healthy work-life balance.
We encourage applications from people from the widest possible diversity of backgrounds, cultures and experiences. We particularly welcome applications from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic candidates, people with disabilities, LGBT+, as they are currently under-represented in DBS at this grade level. Appointments will be made on merit on the basis of fair and open competition.
