Steven Blantz

Category Manager

Having worked in a procurement capacity in Camden for nearly 20 years. The variety of projects I have worked on, and routes to market followed have been extensive and wide ranging. Every day brings new opportunities and challenges. Whether it’s a requirement for sourcing commodity goods or IT systems, to managing unexpected supplier issues, the exposure to working with a variety of stakeholders and sourcing from a variety of external markets has been extremely fulfilling.

Needless to say, we work in an environment where we need to consider our citizens, and at a time where budgets are constrained. Therefore we must not forget that governance and compliance frameworks apply, but these processes are key in making sure we get the right goods and services at the right time for the right cost, and which deliver social value.

But it doesn’t end there, having had the opportunity to lead collaborative procurement exercises and obtain Local and National recognition for work delivered, has helped to ensure that Camden is held as a leading sourcing authority, one which suppliers are keen to bid to work and supply to……and for me, to try to ensure that Camden gets the most out of existing contracts whilst being mindful of future opportunities.

Procurement Project Manager

I joined Camden as a Procurement Officer in 2015. I previously worked in another local authority managing corporate school procurements. Since joining Camden I have had the opportunity to move up to the Procurement Project Manager role and lead on high value and high profile construction procurements. With limited experience in undertaking construction procurements when I arrived at Camden, working within this role has been exciting and I have been able to learn something new with each project I have undertaken. What I like about working in procurement here at Camden is knowing every project is different allowing us to be creative in how we approach the project and look at procuring in ways outside of the norm. There is also the opportunity to work across different categories and learn from a variety of experienced Category Managers in their specialist areas, which is encouraged so a great way to expand knowledge and experience in different categories.

In my current role I am currently leading on a variety of procurements from establishing a new internal construction framework to procuring extra-care services for adults. Each project is different in its own way, with lots of opportunity for learning and being creative in the way the projects are procured. Alongside day to day tendering, there is the opportunity to get involved in other pieces of work. For example, I am part of a working group for implementing the new e-tendering system for the team. This is an interesting part of my job as I enjoy testing and building systems to work efficiently for us to do our jobs.

Camden’s Procurement team is a lively team with a good team spirit and a friendly environment to work in.
