Mike Webb
(General Fund Strategy Advisor)

I joined Finance in Camden in 2017 as a management accountant, after nearly 10 years in the council's strategy and policy team and with no previous accountancy experience. The decision to make a radical career change in mid-life wasn't easy but my new colleagues were incredibly supportive, generous with their time and recognised the value my previous local government experience brought to the role. Returning to study after a long break was another challenge, but the council's package of support for the CIPFA professional qualification allowed me to balance work and home commitments with study, although it certainly was hard work at times!

Since joining Finance, I have gained two internal promotions - after a year I moved into a Business Advisor role and then on qualification I was appointed to a Business Partner role into which I had previously been acting up. These roles have given me a wide range of experience of supporting different council services and cross-cutting experience leading on Finance's communications and co-ordinating the closing process. I am about to take up another new role in Camden, that of General Fund Strategy Advisor. I'm immensely grateful to Camden for supporting me through my career change and offering such a variety of opportunities.

Sangita Mistry
Finance Business Partner (Supporting People)

I joined the London Borough of Camden in the summer of 2017 on the Finance Graduate Trainee Scheme. On the scheme, I rotated around numerous areas, for example Treasury and Pensions, General Fund Strategy and Housing Revenue Account & Capital Projects, to name a few. These rotations gave me a breadth knowledge and experience thereby laying a great foundation for my career.

As part of the scheme, Camden supported my Chartered Public Finance Accountant (CPFA) qualification. Upon qualifying, I applied for a permanent role as a Business Advisor in the Supporting People directorate, which is my current role.

I was nervous about starting my new role whilst working from home, but I have had the necessary support for a smooth transition and my colleagues have been very friendly and helpful. I felt comfortable accepting this role as I had the opportunity to work with members of the team while I was still a trainee.

Camden is a unique borough and I have enjoyed learning about all the ways in which the Council aims to makes the lives of its residents better. Knowing that my role supports this goal has been very fulfilling.

I have enjoyed my time at Camden and feel that there are plenty of opportunities to progress my career over time.
