Neil Simcock
Head of Finance (Supporting Communities)
I joined Camden as an assistant management accountant 10 years ago towards the end of my graduate trainee scheme with another borough. In time I worked my way up to becoming a divisional accountant supporting the Regeneration and Planning division, before moving to Strategic Finance as a Business Advisor supporting the Council’s medium-term financial strategy. This provided a great platform to see how the council is funded and deploys its resources. After 3 years in this role I became the head of service, which had been expended to include support for schools, the HRA, and the council’s capital projects.
Following a restructure last year, which brought together financial advisory, management accounting and day to day service support under specific directorate-supporting finance services, I became the Head of Finance supporting the Council’s Communities Directorate. In this role I sit on the directorate management team, providing financial advice and support to directors.

Finance Business Partner (Supporting People)
I joined Camden as an assistant management accountant nearly a year ago. I previously worked in the Private sector, in Consulting and had taken a career break to be with my children. Since I joined I have taken the opportunity to move up through a couple of internal promotions to become the Business Partner for Housing Support, Transport, Childrens and Early Years.
With little limited experience of local Government it has been an exciting time, every day is truly different. I have really enjoyed the variety of work, gaining a wide array of knowledge, meeting and supporting a range of stakeholders.
In my current role I manage a team of four. The key focus for the team includes providing support and managing the budgeting, forecasting and year end accounting process with our Services. Alongside we also support analysis, small projects, providing input to large scale purchases, savings targets and improving processes and controls.
Camden has a great team spirit, great location and is definitely a dynamic finance function, which allows staff to develop and further their career in a supporting environment.
