Finance Business Partner (x3)

Main accountabilities

Reporting to the Director of Finance, this role is to provide proactive professionally qualified support for the management of the Colleges’ financial affairs, ensuring the best use of resources and to contribute to the strategic and operational management of the College.  The Finance Business Partner will input into all strategic decisions made by the College to ensure that proper financial attention is being taken into consideration in any major decision affecting the University.

Key duties and responsibilities:

People Management and Leadership

  • You will build and maintain effective business partnering relationships across all departments within the College, and act as trusted advisor to your College’s leadership team

  • Ensure that a culture of customer-focused service delivery is consistently maintained across all aspects of the Finance department’s provision

  • Provide advice and information to, and work collaboratively with the Head of Financial Controller and the Head of Financial Planning and Analysis to provide a cohesive service.

  • Work collaboratively with other Finance Business Partners and colleagues across Finance to develop shared insights, priorities and ideas.

Strategy and Policy

  • Develop a broad and deep understanding of the work and strategic priorities of your College

  • Be outward looking and future focussed, horizon scanning and using innovative approaches that will enable the College to realise its strategic and operational plans in a financially sustainable manner.

  • Thoroughly research all business proposals being considered by the College, and use your professional skill and judgement to provide support and constructive challenge, and influence positive outcomes

  • Evaluate potential business/investment opportunities by investigating the options available, analysing financial and non-financial costs and benefits of each options, and factoring in any risks and constraints associated with each option.

  • Provide timely, relevant and insightful analysis and commentary to make recommendations and drive good decision making

  • Provide high quality advice to College and Executive senior management to enable the better financial management of resources

  • Identify measures and systems to evaluate the financial performance of the College, identifying opportunities to achieve or exceed college performance targets, and make considered and sensible suggestions for improvements that are in line with the College’s vision and objectives

  • Ensure forecasting accuracy, by being the key interface between the College and the Finance function for planning budgeting and forecasting processes.

  • Drive the development of effective costing and pricing of new activities.

Operational Management

  • Ensure forecasting accuracy, by being the key interface between the College and the Finance function for planning budgeting and forecasting processes.

  • Work collaboratively with other functions to coordinate activities and promote team working

  • To identify training requirements for non-Finance staff and contribute to the delivery of appropriate  training programmes on financial structures, financial planning, performance indicators, budgeting techniques and business planning to non-finance staff throughout the University

  • To contribute to the overall management of the Finance department as part of the Finance Management Team.

Stakeholder Management

  • Establish and maintain effective and working relationships with the Deans of Colleges and Heads of Professional Services

  • Work closely with the Head of Financial Planning and Analysis to produce financial plans that are challenging, but achievable, and acceptable at the corporate level, in line with the University’s strategy.

  • To act as conduit for financial matters between the College and Finance.

Budget Management

  • To ensure that the College is provided with the services, reports and financial analysis it needs to allow the Dean to manage the College and divisional budget effectively.
